'Experiencing Earthquake envy...'

is what a friend of mine in Knoxville posted on facebook today. I felt the earthquake, so I have no envy and I hope to never feel another one again. My work building is earthquake 'proof,' so they think that it over compensated and the top floors swayed. I was at my desk with my headphones on working a spreadsheet when I thought my inner ear issue was coming back...I immediately got so upset. Then, the guy that sits next to me said he thought he needed to go check his blood pressure because everything was swaying; someone said that their chair was falling, another got sick to his stomach...we thought there must have been an earthquake. We were shocked when we heard that the so earthquake was in VA. Seriously can't imagine what it would feel like if it was on the New Madrid fault.
Also, I was so sad to receive this letter today. Pat seems so young, healthy and unstoppable...you know when I was in college you could walk into a guys game, but you had to wait in line and hope you got a ticket for the women games. Pat is such an inspiration around the campus. Do you think the team will bring home her final championship? I sure hope so...

Dear All–

Throughout my career, I have always made it a point that my life and my basketball program were an open book.

With that in mind, I have something I’d like to share with my Tennessee families—the university, boosters and fans of Lady Vol basketball.

Once last season concluded, I addressed some ongoing concerns regarding my health. After consulting with my local physicians, I decided to visit the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Earlier this summer, the doctors at the Mayo Clinic diagnosed me with early onset dementia ("Alzheimer's Type") at the age of 59.

I plan to continue to be your coach. Obviously, I realize I may have some limitations with this condition since there will be some good days and some bad days.

For that reason I will be relying on my outstanding coaching staff like never before. We have always collaborated on every facet of Lady Vol Basketball; and now you will see Holly Warlick, Dean Lockwood and Mickie DeMoss taking on more responsibility as their duties will change significantly.

I love being your coach, and the privilege to go to work every day with our outstanding Lady Vol basketball student-athletes. I appreciate the complete support of UT Chancellor Dr. Jimmy Cheek and UT Athletics Director Joan Cronan to continue coaching at the University of Tennessee as long as the good Lord is willing.

I've been honest and shared my health concerns with you and now we’ll move forward to the business at hand…coaching a great group of Lady Vols. For the time being, I hope you will respect my privacy regarding this matter.

Thank you.

Go Lady Vols!

Stash...

Have you been? I'm really liking this coffee table, but don't think it would look right in my living room...

It's been awhile...

Probably 3.5 years (at the company store in Kansas City...If my memory serves me correct it was February 29, 2008) since I've been in a real Hallmark Shop for cards...such mixed emotions in there. However, I went in with a bad attitude (just not a great day that ended at the dentist), but came out feeling like myself again. Love it!

Summer Side Dish

This is our new summer side dish of choice. We had something similar at Elegant Farmer and since then I've been making it several times a week with Farmer's Market okra, corn on the cob and little tomatoes. As to not forget the recipe I'm capturing it here...10 medium sized okra sliced thin, 10 mini red tomatoes halved and corn cut off of 1 peaches and cream corn on the cob...season with cajun spices, salt and pepper. Heat basil infused olive oil (This was a birthday gift from Torrey...it is from The Olive Oil Shop in Charleston and I LOVE it...I recommend ordering some now, but I'm sure any olive oil will work if you want to make tonight!) in a skillet on medium low heat, pour seasoned veggies and saute for 22-22 minutes. The key is not to stir too much cause if you do the okra gets slimish (I probably only stir 3-4 times). Enjoy!

Craft time...

After a delicious family lunch curtesy of mom and Molly...the guys took a nap and the girls did crafts! Mom is busy getting stuff ready for her door at school.

Just a playin...

Ray and I came home from a fun baby shower just in time to babysit our fun niece. Lily and I walked to the playground and played until it got dark...we walked home so she could play dueling guitar/banjo with Uncle Ray. Her guitar request to Uncle Ray was Baby Got Back! And he is at his computer learning it now...should be interesting!

In the hot seat…

Being the catalog/internet shopper that I am and not to mention my obsession with capturing the perfect pictures, I have come to LOVE catalogliving.net. It's all about the simple life that Gary and Elaine live inside our catalogs...
This is still one of my favorites from this summer!
In the hot seat…

Why are you shocked I passed...everything?

I woke up early to go get my car inspected...got there at 7:15 with a book in tow, but there was no line. What? I double check the sign and confirm I'm at the right place and yes it is indeed open. I was out by 7:21. A personal record! This year they enforced the OBD reading, so I had to get out of the car and wait in the little hut. When the nice man handed me my forms he said 'And Young Lady, I'm happy to say you passed everything...and I mean everything, but I would expect that since I see you work at AutoZone!'. Seriously, got me to wondering how many cars in city don't pass the new OBD readings? And just because I work at AZ doesn't make me a mechanic, heck...I buy stereos, security, air fresheners and consumer goods for goodness sakes! All in all it was my best experience yet in the inspection line. Here's to the rest of this day going smooth!

Family time...

Emily had her final Kelly's Kids party today and Caleb and Lily came with her, so we met up with them and mom and dad for some Mexi'can'! Nice way to end the weekend. The only thing better would have been if Molly and Logan could have joined us!

Who is your favorite aunt?

Nonna's interview with Lily...
What is your name? Lily
How old are you? 3
What is your favorite color? pink
What is your favorite animal? Zebra
What is your favorite book? Curious George and the man with the yellow hat
What is your favorite song? Shake it for me, girl (seriously how many 3 year olds do you know who's favorite song is Luke Bryan's Country Girl, Shake it for mel!!!)

I think that was about all the questions...Lily and I were busy playing with the Mickey Mouse train that was Molly's as a child.

Lily spent the night with Nonna and Poppa while her parents went to a concert last night. I hear she had a great time with her Poppa at Chuckie Cheeses and as you can see from the photo below she enjoyed doing crafts with her Nonna this morning.

Well I got a mess...

Of purple hull peas! Well it is more like a bushel of purple hulls that were home grown for Lily's Greenhouse! I'm putting them up tonight so we will be able to enjoy them this winter. I did cook some last night and they turned out fantastic!
