Lily's 1st 5K...great weekend!

Ever since Lily's friends did the color run 5K last year, she has been asking me if we could do it. I'm so glad the rain held off as she was so excited. She did great...got a little tired towards the end and said she couldn't do it, but she did with a lot of encouragement. So very proud of her! Then we celebrated with pedicures with Nonna!

This was after the 2nd color station...there were 2 more!
Layne enjoyed helping Uncle Ray out around the house and going to see the planes at two airports!
We ended the night feeding the duck, catching fireflies, eating pizza at our favorite spot and enjoying the final River series concert of the spring at the neighborhood school behind our house!
Yes, Lily is only 6, but her t-ball and her school number is 8...so that is the pancake shape she requested!
Now these 2 are headed with Nonna to spend the night with Mullen! I'm sure they are in for a fun night!

Oh Saturday

You started off thunder storming, but that didn't keep us from the JL 5K! Or keep us from smiling or finishing soaking wet!

Then we celebrated Mother's Day with lunch at Belly Acres and cupcakes at Muddy's!

Now we are Taking Care of GRIZZness! Go Grizz! Beat Golden State!

Winner!!

So, I've been in Vegas for a show...I never really gamble when I'm there (I usually just don't have time, plus I would rather go buy something) and I never play airport slots, but my Grandma Mullen loved a particular type of machine and was always lucky. Well I saw that machine, so I put $20 in. I'm playing and this older gentlemen walked up and asked me if I was winning. I said no, but my grandma always played red, white and blue 7's so I'm a sucker. He laughed. And then the older lady with him asked in a laughing manner if I would give the winnings to my grandma. I said that unfortunately she had passed away and she said, well if you win you should buy yourself something nice in her honor! Then I hit this!

And since I have this new love for watching the sunrise and set...how beautiful was this view from my plane (that had broken wifi and air conditioning...and people think work travel is so glamorous)!

So proud of my oldest favorite!

First place in district and STATE for her water color artwork out of all the other lower elementary submissions! Sad I missed the awards program, but loved getting these pics from Nonna!

She also got a medal for reading! Such a smart, sweet girl!

Wonderful Weekend

With these special friends!  Loved having them in town for a Girl's weekend...we shopped, went to the Civil Rights Museum, ate well at Bounty and Babalu, worked out, got mains/pedis, went to the farmer's market and GROW and Harbor Town crawfish fest, Silky's, Raifords and more...all in 48 hours (I'm tired!)!  Can't wait for our next Girl's weekend!
Shea wanted me to feed the animals at GROW and I just couldn't tell her no!

Beautiful weekend...

Loved that we were able to get some much needed work done outside, eat outside and just enjoy this beautiful weather!
On Saturday after the Farmer's Market, I worked amongst these awesome JL friends (and one husband, because we know drilling into concrete is no easy task!) to transform an old, empty room at MAM (Memphis Area Ministries) located in Leawood Baptist Church into a ladies lounge for their 3rd-6th grade girls!

Several of the girls came to see it and they didn't want to leave! They absolutely loved the space. They immediately put the new Frozen CD in their new CD player and made themselves at home! I loved seeing them enjoy themselves!  This is a highly Hispanic neighborhood and the nearby Community Center just might be the location of our 2nd GROW program (eek...so excited we will soon have 2 GROWs)!  It has been fun being a part of this planning process.

Then I went and volunteered at the Best Buddies Friendship Walk. This was their 1st walk in Memphis, but I'm familiar with this program as my cousins in South Florida are very active with the group. Shannon is even her school's president this year!
So to the participants the highlight of this event was the free ice cream truck. I want to own one of these when I grow up. This older gentleman is the President of a local company and he spends his free time giving away ice cream for a donation...then he hands the donation bucket over to the charity before he leaves! Pretty clever and rewarding at the same time.

Easter 2015

So that everyone could go to their own church on Easter morning, we celebrated on Saturday and good thing because Easter Sunday was cold, cloudy and eventually rainy! We started at the egg hunt at Lily and Layne's church.  Most of my pictures are of Lily and her friends.  She was in a different hunt area, so I went with her while Emily went with Layne and Molly was with Mullen.  Then their preacher told the Easter story through the resurrection eggs and we had a cook out.  It was a fun time and the kids loved it!

We came back to Emily and Caleb's and played, helped Poppa finish the chicken coop and had tons of egg hunts.  Then the Jones and O'Neals came for dinner and Easter smores by the bonfire.  Great day with the family and friends that are like family!
